About the opportunity

The Executive Director holds overall accountability for organisational performance. The role translates board direction into an operating plan, leads the senior team, safeguards financial and regulatory health, and represents the organisation to funders, partners, and the wider sector.

Key responsibilities

• Lead development and execution of the organisational strategy agreed with the board
• Hold accountability for annual budget, financial sustainability, and reporting integrity
• Build, direct, and develop the senior leadership team
• Maintain an effective working relationship with the board and its committees
• Ensure compliance with legal, regulatory, and governance obligations
• Represent the organisation to partners, funders, media, and sector bodies
• Oversee organisational risk management and mitigation planning
• Champion organisational culture, staff development, and retention

Qualifications and experience

• Bachelor's degree in business, management, public administration, or a related field
• Advanced degree or professional qualification advantageous
• Substantial senior leadership experience with profit-and-loss or budget accountability
• Demonstrated experience reporting to a board or governing body

What success looks like

• A clear operating plan is in place and progress against it is visible to the board
• Financial position remains stable and reporting is accurate and timely
• The senior team is capable, aligned, and retained
• Key external relationships are actively maintained
